Charles Brusch, donated the land and building in 1943 to the Catholic Church.

In 2008 Initially The Archdiocese of Manchester declined an offer from the town of Brookline to purchase the Infant Jesus of Prague church on Main Street.

Shortly after the property went on the market in early January 2008, Brookline selectmen were quick to show interest in the 65-year-old landmark chapel. Within days they wrote an article to appear on the 2008 warrant to request to buy the property and also submitted a purchase and sales agreement to the real estate firm listing it.

Supporting the efforts for the town to acquire the church is Mary Elizabeth Brusch Fields, daughter of Charles Brusch, who donated the land and building in 1943. Fields has contributed $10,000 to cover some of the preliminary purchasing costs.

The slate-roofed church was built to look like a miniature Roman Catholic cathedral and is in turnkey condition, she said, “it’s an absolutely beautiful building.”

The church’s location at 136 Main Street, and the approximately 4,000 square footage of usable space offered many possibilities for town use. Selectmen entertained ideas of converting the building into a senior center or using the facility for community meeting space.
